Keep in mind your goals for your debut: To get bookings!!! Are you going to offer a drawing? I usually tell my consultants to have a door prize for everyone and then a drawing for those who set up an appointment. I try to emphazise that you really want to get bookings and not worry about trying to sell at the debut. It helps keep you relaxed... plus the future bookings is where the cash is.... I also get people to fill out the customer profiles and look thorugh the looks. I have a table with hostess gifts and discuss the hostess program. Then I QUICKLY go over all the product line displaying one of everything if possible.

Call everyone you invited and make sure they are coming. If you just send out an invitation, and don't call, nobody will come. Tell them you'll have a cool gift for them if they bring a friend, and a very cool gift if they bring two friends. (You can give a small treat like a hand cream sample wrapped up pretty, or a loose powder brush...no more than a $1 value) Have a drawing like someone else mentioned. When your guests are at your house, ask them to give you names of women who they think would love a facial...that way if they don't want to hold a class, you can contact thier friends to set up appointments, using thier names as a referral source. Keep the whole thing simple, fun and relaxing, and your debut will be a smash hit!

I have just signed my consultant agreement and I am ready to begin my Mary Kay career. However, I am a little nervous about starting and could use some selling suggestions. I am a very busy person, so my selling time is limited to 4-5 hours per week. Any Suggestions?

Welcome aboard! I too am a new consultant of almost two months. First, I recommend that you have a debut and invite lots and lots of people. It's the very best way to start your business with some customers and begin to build your customer base. Then book at least 4 classes a week. My director says that the going rate for classes that hold is about 50C even with good coaching. She recommends that if you want to hold 2, book 4. You can always dovetail or merge small classes. Facials are nice, but with limited time, you'll want to see as many people at a time as possible. Best of luck to you. Keep us posted about how things are going.

Yes, you really need to have a debut and invite lots and lots of people. Have your recruiter there also to help you with the facials and satin hands. I had a debut when I got started 6 months ago and it turned out GREAT. I mailed out about 75 invitations and told as many people as I could tell. Since this is a numbers game sometimes I had about 25 people (1/3 of the invitations that were mailed out) to actually show up that day. One of the best things that happen that day was I met a customer through her sister. My customer whom I had never seen before sent a BLANK CHECK with her sister to purchase a basic set and lipstick. To my amazement she knew the color and everything. I did check with her sister to see if she already had a consultant so I woiuld not be taking someone else's customer. Her original consultant was no longer in the business. I also held a drawing and gave away a $50 basket to intice people to fill out a card that I could later contact and schedule a class. I am still working from the list. Welcome to MK and have a great career!
