One of the best classes I had at Leadership was taught by Angie Stoker (I hope that is the correct spelling), top Canadian NSD.  Angie was a single mom and struggling as a director and when she moved across Canada to an area where she knew no one.  She had 13 consultants in her unit and not only did she have no production, she owed the company money.  She was so broke at Christmas that she was unable to buy Christmas presents for her children and her Christmas tree consisted of a branch from the yard decorated with suckers hung on the tree from holes in the wrappers.  She asked herself "am I in (MK) or am I out."   She decided to go to work and work smart.  She got out everyday and only 4 years later she had gone from a director with 13 non-productive consultants to NSD!

This is what she did:


1.  She dressed up and was out of the house by 9:00 a.m. She spent 1 hour every day giving out 10 business cards.  "I'm Angie Stoker with MK, This is my card.  I would love to offer you an opportunity to a 30 minute pampering session.  Just write your name and phone number here."

2.  Facial boxes in beauty salons, restaurants, etc.  The sign for the facial box said register for a free gift certificate and free pampering.  As an incentive to the place of business to encourage customers to register, she would purchase a gift certificate from the business only if she had names to draw from.  She would check the facial box every few days and get the names & numbers of those who registered.  Then she would put all the names back in for the drawing later in the month.  She called the names as soon as she got them, "You won a free 30 minute pampering session.  You can keep the samples and I have Tuesday or Thursday."

3.  "Cash Game."  $100 cash giveaway to "silent hostess" for filling 20 lines on a sheet of paper in the next 7 days with at least $20 in product ordered on each line ($70 order == 3 lines).  Each customer who places an order must include her name and phone number.  (You could offer a drawing for a free product from names of customers who place an order.) The minimum sales from 1 Cash Game are $400.  However, Angie said she found the average was $520 and after cost of product is deducted from money for the sales and $100 cash is given away, the profit  is $160!)  Angie called the customers herself to make arrangements to deliver the product.  "When I drop your product by, I can do a 30 minute pampering session with you.  I have a promotion on - 1 friend == $10 in free product, 2 friends == $25 in free product, 3 friends == $75 for $25.

4.  Recruiting - If we are not telling what the company offers, we will not get interviews.  Offer a recruiting invitation at the beginning or ending of facials or classes.  Be very casual about it and offer 1 reason to do MK for each personality style.  "We are doing hiring in the area and looking for quality women to do a quality job.  There are 4 reasons to do MK.  #1 is the money.  The average income for a class is $50 an hour. #2 are tax breaks. You can write off a portion of your heat, etc. #3 are free cars.  You can earn the use of a free car in 1 to 4 months. #4 is flexibility and freedom...  I'm going to give you something to read.  Promise me you will read it."
