When You Are an Adoptee
When you are attending meetings local to you, and they are not with your own Director, then you are considered an Adoptee.  That is what makes Mary Kay's No Territories benefit work!  You can have Team/Unit members anywhere in the United States, and someone will help train and motivate her!  I was always an Adopted Consultant.  My Director lived in Houston TX and I NEVER lived in Texas.. I started my business in Kansas, moved to Wyoming, and then to Minnesota.  With all the moves and changes I had 8 Adopted Directors!  I always felt it was the best of both worlds... because I could learn from successful women with different personalities and strengths.  But you will want to remember that your Director is the only one getting paid for working with you, so be respectful of your Adopting Director's time and resources.  She is giving to you in the true Go Give Spirit of our Company, and she is getting nothing back financially... only the paychecks of the heart... which personally are way more rewarding! :)

You may be an Adoptee in my Unit, or you may be a Consultant in my Unit that is Adopted by another Director.  If you have any questions, read the information below, and contact me if you need more information.

ADOPTEES:  Please, email me your contact information (name, address, phone numbers, email address) and your Consultant number so that I can put you on our Weekly Accomplishments Scoreboard, and you can submit your Accomplishment Sheets to me AND your Director every Sunday.  Also email me your Director's name, Seminar Affiliation and her contact information (address, phone numbers, email address).

Here is a great article that will give you good advice.... HOW TO BE A GREAT ADOPTEE

QUESTION:  I have a question about being an adoptee. I was told that we would need to choose whose challenges to participate in, yours or the local Director's. So I want to make an "informed decision". What exactly does that mean? What types of challenges would we not do with you, if we choose the local challenges?  I understand that I should turn in my weekly accomplishment sheets to both of you. Will I still be listed on you web site in areas like the tracking chart for star consultant? That sort of thing? Any input? Any advice? I'd be happy to hear what you have to say!

ANSWER:  With prizes the thing is... your local Director will bill me for them, so the reason you are asked to choose is so that I'm not paying for two prizes for the same activity.  I trust you on this.  If your local Director is offering a contest for the same activity as I do, then if I were you, I would choose to do the one locally.  It is more fun to get the immediate recognition in front of your peers and team versus a box in the mail!  Sometimes it won't be necessary to choose, because they are for different things and you can participate in both.  As far as recognition on the website, if I know about it... it's something I'm tracking, then you better believe your name will be on the website!!!  I would never leave anyone out!  Don't worry too much... if there's a problem we can talk about specifics, but in general, yes, participate in the local contests!  Just keep in mind that I will be reimbursing your Adopting Director, so try not to take a prize from me and one from her for the same activity.  I know sometimes, I would tell my Director... "I'm already getting something locally, so don't send me anything for my Power Start this month"... and sometimes I would accept the recognition locally, but give the Director back the prize privately later and tell her "My Director already sent me (or is sending me) something for doing a Power Start. Thank you, anyway though!"  Sometimes I have Adoptees who turn in a voucher, just to let me know they did the activity, so they can get the recognition, but tell me they don't need me to order a prize.  Basically, do what your local Director wants you to do to make it easy for her.  You and I can work out things between us.  I know you won't take advantage of me.  I'm just glad you are going to training!!!
