Gretchen MacArthur's
"I" Story

I began my Mary Kay business because I wanted to be home with my children , yet have a career of my own!  I call this my "have my cake and eat it too" career. I was trained as a Special  Education teacher at the University of Minnesota. My first job was in Dedham, Ma.  teaching mentally retarded children.  John, my husband, was doing a surgical residency in Boston.

To help make ends meet each month (he was earning $25/mo.), I was teaching, making 10-12 doz. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies for the Dedham Women's Exchange to sell, selling Christmas cards and babysitting for our landlord, who deducted that amount from our rent!  Things did get better, we started our family of three children. I continued to substitute  teach and supervised student teachers at Lesley College in Cambridge.  The college "suggested" that I get a MA degree--I did and thought now I am in" fat city" and will make a lot more money!  WRONG! ( not by my rules)

I had begun to use MK products in Boston, but when we moved to CT. I could not find a consultant!  Then DOROTHY FERRIGNO came into my life! Our children were in the same 3rd  grade class, and she sent home a little flyer saying she was a MK consultant  I went to her home, got my products and she said "Gretchen, have you ever thought of doing what I do?" Hummm..I loved the product, wanted to be around with the kids, money sounded good,  and the philosophy unbelieveable , so I said "YES"! ( Dotty almost fell off her chair!!!)

I did not have any thoughts of being a Director at that point, but I was, and am still am very CONSISTANT-like doing something every  day, building my customer base, being a STAR CONSULTANTevery quarter ( missed only 1 in 20yrs.) and loving my customers.  I do like money, it gives many  choices.
As my business grew, I realized that I deserved a
FREE (earned ) car, so for 16 yrs. I have had MK cars and we are now in our 2nd PINK CADILLAC. To be a part of this  fabulous company  is a privilege!  Life has its ups and downs, but MK is always there IF you put your time in. There is no free lunch out there and it is wonderful to know you are making a difference!

Ladies, work this business full circle, and your Dreams will come true!
