FUND RAISERS

Here is a collection of ideas for doing fund raisers!  Why not help someone else, while you build your business?!  I've done fund raisers for schools and organizations, and everyone wins!!

Please know the Legal-Ease can be found by going towww.marykayintouch.com, select Resources and then click on Legal where you will find the link to our Legal-Ease guidelines.  The fundraiser information will be found on page 20 of the Legal-Ease.

I did a fundraiser with 2 schools last year and it is AWESOME!
Basically I pick out items they can sell to their friends if they did nothing more than that.  Of course they do and I have picked up several Customers this way.

The items I use are...
Lip Gloss
Bronzers
Cream Eye Colors
Spa Products
Satin Hands
Satin Lips

Then I also give them each a look book that they can show with all of our products that has my web site.  In the comments field they MUST MUST MUST put the school name so I know where to apply the money.
I also have an outside order form they use to take their orders.
I offer them 25% of the sale on any product

I go in before each fundraiser begins and do a Image Class with the entire squad.
Then I offer the highest 3 in sales a Private Glamour Consultation with me and a shopping spree.

I base the shopping spree on their sales.  I don't do a whole lot, but they LOVE the whole Glamour Class in itself!  You must offer something as an incentive for them to sell this product.
But once you go in and do the image class and explain the fundraiser they get super excited!!

Their Glamour Consultation happened to be Prom Day!  Another reason they were super excited.  I came in and did their makeup and the Free product I offered was the Lip Products for touch up
Liner, Stick and Gloss!  THEY LOVED IT and each ended up buying a lot more.  A lot of these kids that have jobs can purchase from us.  Sometimes we prejudge because they are teens, but truly what else do they have to spend their money on?!

You will also want to contact the school treasurer or whomever is in charge of the monies.
People will make the check out to the High School not you.  You will then go in and collect your money less the 25% (or whatever you choose).

Hope this helps

I do fund-raisers at my son's preschool every year, and I know there are lots of other Directors and consultants who go into the schools to do fundraisers (bands, cheerleaders, drama club... you name it!).  I usually do a 40% split with the school -- that means not much profit for me but a ton of leads.

One thing I do recommend is keeping it VERY SIMPLE.  In other words, don't give out Beauty books and expect people to purchase from it.  Choose specific items or a specific theme that people can purchase, and then invite them to visit your website to see the "full line" if they want to purchase other items.  Some ideas:  mascara mania (selling mascara "only" -- circle type and color; lips and tips (lipstick with matching nail color); Spa Sets; during the holidays you can do the holiday collection; Eyes & Lips (mascara and lipgloss or lipstick.  For round numbers, make it $20 even instead of $20.50)

These are just a couple, but I hope it helps Heather.

DATE:                          FEBRUARY 14, 20XX

SUBJECT:        PROPOSED MARY KAY FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY

FROM:             CINDY MACHADO, IND. BEAUTY CONSULTANT

I'm very excited to have the opportunity to offer my assistance in your fundraising efforts and to share with you a way we can work together.  A full-line catalog is enclosed and products for your fundraiser can be changed to fit your needs and/or time of year it is held.  I would advise to stay away from Ltd. Edition items and items where a color has to be chosen.

The products suggested here are generic and consumable and the figures outlined below are based upon minimal sales, number of people involved, and the school or group's 30% profit.

Enriched Men's Shaving Cream $5.50

Hand Cream with SPF4 $7.50

Satin Lips Lip Set $18.00

Bronzing Beads & Brush $20.00

Velocity Facial Cleanser & Moisturizer Set for Teens $22.00

Lip Gloss $12.00

Satin Hands Pampering Set $28.00

The Eyecicles $10.00

Timewise 3-in-1 Cleanser & Age-Fighting Moisturizer Set $38.00

Based on one person selling only one of each of these products, this would total $187.00 in total sales. One participant selling 10 tubes of hand cream would have a total sales of 75.00.

Lets use $100 in sales to figure your profits:

No. of Students           Minimum Sales            Total Sales      School/Group Profit

10                                $100                             $1,000.00         $300.00

25                                $100                             $2,500.00         $750.00

Can you imagine the organization's profit when each individual sells $150.00 worth of product? And believe us, it is not hard to do with these products. These are products every family uses sometime during the course of the year.  Wouldnt it feel great to purchase a product you know you will use and in return provide a benefit to the group?

Please allow me to generally explain the specifics associated with this fundraiser.   I will provide the following service and assistance:

A document that displays the products

A letter, instructions, and envelope for sales for each participant

Order forms  (only 6% tax needs to be added - no shipping/handling charges)

Money is to be collected at time of order - cash, credit card (m/c, visa, discover), or money order

Totaling and ordering of the products

Bundling each order by customer, then by student

Delivery to the school or group.

Top 2 sellers will each get a $50 gift certificate from me to be used towards any Mary Kay product.

Any unsatisfied customers may be sent directly to me and will be handled in a kind and courteous manner (Mary Kay has a 100% guarantee on all products). Your organization will be relinquished of this duty.

The normal campaign time is 2-3 weeks or whatever the group deems is sufficient. The delivery time is within three weeks after the campaign time.  Your Group's Profits and Gift Certificates will be presented at this time as well.

Sincerely,

We make up flyers to hand out.  That's the other reason I like small "sets" for promotion -- I don't want to spend a lot on color copying or whatever.  So depending on what I'm selling at the moment, I either take a picture off the website (like of the Private Spa products) and reproduce it in black and white on the flyers or you can just use regular clip-art for something as simple as "mascara" or "lipstick" (they don't need to see ours to buy it).  (When we did the holiday gift items, we just got the mailers off Section 2 that are like 10 for $1.00.  I'll spend 10 cents each to put glossy paper in their hands)

Anyway, so I make up the flyer explaining what the special for the school is and make black and white copies on pretty paper or at least colored paper (sometimes the school will make the copies for you, so it's worth asking who has to make the copies).  I create an "order form" right on it (just a simple table with item, quantity, price, total, sales tax, etc.) so I don't have to attach sales tickets.  I usually also put an incentive of some sort, which can be as simple as the PCP (order over $40 and get a free gift), but sometimes I say, "Every order will receive a free gift (I usually use a TW sample packet, but you can use whatever you like), orders over $40 will receive TWO free gifts (sample & PCP premium), orders over $100 will receive THREE free gifts (sample, PCP premium and then I usually throw in something I want to "get rid of" -- discontinued or limited edition products, whatever).  And then I put (in bold on a line by itself):  To see our complete line of products, please visit www.marykay.com/XXXX

At the bottom of the order form, I include a set of boxes for them to check off:
___ Please add me to your mailing list
___ I am interested in a complimentary skin care assessment and/or makeover
___ Help!  I need a Mary Kay consultant
___ I already have a Mary Kay consultant.  (Name: __________________)  (I include this one in case they are purchasing just to help the school -- I don't want to "steal" another consultant's customer after the fundraiser is over, but it also allows me to follow-up and say, "I'm so glad to hear you already have a Mary Kay consultant.  That's great!  If there is anything I can ever help you with, please feel free to contact me, but I know she's giving you great service..." or something like that)

After the fundraiser is over, I follow up with everyone who ordered to make sure they are happy with their purchase, that the right products arrived, etc., etc.  I start with anyone who checked of the "help" or the "makeover" boxes and then move to the mailing list and end with people who didn't mark anything.  No matter what they checked off, I always ask for a booking and if they aren't intersted in booking, I ask if they want to be on my mailing list (except, obviously for those who checked that they already have a consultant).

Something else that came up in another CC e-mail (don't know if you saw it) is that when a group is motivated to earn money, these fundraisers are much more successful.  For example, just sending them out to all the moms at a preschool might not turn in a lot of orders, because there is not necessarily a NEED there -- how many fundraisers do these schools do already?  But if you have cheerleaders who are trying to raise money to go to competition, or band members who need new uniforms or whatever, THEY will get out and sell to raise the money, and the people they ask to purchase will do so to "help the cause."  So I think a lot of what you get back depends on how much incentive the group has to raise money.

I hope that helps.  I'm cc'ing CC on this, because I think it might help someone else, too.

I have done various fundraisers for different school, and also "parts" of schools. Like the Cheerleading squad, my Daughters 2nd grade class only, New Playground Equiptment, things of that sort.

The best advice I can give you about who to contact is walk right into the school looking like Mary Kay herself and simply ask who you would need to talk to. Sometimes the school wants to put it by the principal first, sometimes you are directed straight to the Chairperson of the PTO/PTA and sometimes they request you leave it with the offie staff and they will get it to the right person.

Different schools operate very differently. I was told by the local highschool here (My kids are in elementary school, but I went there anyway) that they do not allow "outside fundraising". My babysitter is a cheerleader for that very school, and also a customer and asked me if Mary Kay or I ever did fundraising because the Cheerleaders were looking for some help aside form the regular school fundraising efforts. I went in, talked to the Cheerleading coach and 3 weeks later started a fundraiser for them only and had $1800.00 in sales in

2 weeks time. So, I don't think there is ever 1 answer. Just go in and ask. Plus, while you are there looking your best, you can talk to the office staff about Mary Kay :-) Never give up on your dreams!

$6300 Fund Raiser!

First, I must give credit to to others for forwarding many awesome emails my way. One was on fundraising and WOW. Did a light bulb go off in my head! Thanks girlfriend!!!

This is the "inside scoop" on the Fundraisers. I have been doing fundraisers locally for the past 5 years and every year I tweak it just a bit...this year
...This cheerleading team of 33 (both JV and varsity), was by far, my most successful one to date!

I first contacted all local middle and high schools to get the name of the coach for each particular team that I wanted to have fundraised with me. I would then ask to speak with that person, or leave a message for them. Please be sure to leave in the message that you are calling about a fundraising program for their team or club, etc. Make sure that you keep a running list of who you called, etc... I had a few call me back, however, you MUST be persistent and assume that they want to fundraise with you, so you need to call back until you connect with them LIVE!

Once you have the coach on the phone, tell them about what you are offering
and how their club can successfully fundraise with yourself and Mary Kay
Cosmetics! (I always give 20% of all retail sales, excluding sales tax, back to the team.) I suggest setting up a time to get together with them to go over it in more detail and to show them, if they are not familiar with MK, just exactly what we have available and how our products (with the Velocity) are geared more for the teens!

Once the appt. is set, be sure you have everything ready to make a GREAT
first impression. I always bring my caboodle with all of the Velocity Products as well as the Domain Body and Hair Shampoo, a sunscreen, lip glosses, hand
cream. All in my caboodle! I also bring in the actual notebook that I put
together for the team to use to fundraise, so that the coach can see how very simple and easy it is to have a successful fundraiser!

When you are visiting one on one with the coach, be sure to ask, " Why are
you fundraising, is it for uniforms, competitions, equipment, etc...How much
would you like to raise?" Once you know this and also know how many participants that you have, figure out what each person need s to sell to reach that goal.

(Just like we do in our business as consultants and directors) I then ask
to find out when they have a Parent Meeting...I have found that to be the
perfect time to kick off a fundraiser... you already have the parent's in your space and you can introduce them to MK and get them excited about this fundraiser, because after all, the moms are actually the ones doing all the selling, right? :)

While at the parent meeting, I make sure that I have at least 45 min. and I
explain to the coach in our initial appt. that I will be demoing some of our
products...Just like a Trunk Show! It's Fun, Easy and the cheerleaders have
absolutely loved it!

****MY FUNDRAISER NOTEBOOK.... consists of a book report cover and 15 of the clear page protectors. I then carefully tear each page out of the current look book and put each page separately in the page protector. That's it! It then makes the fundraising packet more durable and they can take it everywhere without getting torn up and raggedy by the end of the fundraiser.

What I have found, personally, in running a fundraiser is to only run it for
3-4 wks. Tops! And I have contests that go on throughout my fundraisers for
the top sellers...The #1 in Sales over a min of $250 receives a $75 MK gift
Certificate, the #2 in sales receives $50 G.C. and so on....I have in the past
just made a MK Basket of goodies to give away to the TOP in Sales, you can do whatever you'd like.

Now this is how I have worked my schedule in getting the product to them in a timely manner...Everyone absolutely LOVES the fact that we can turn around and get the product to them immediately and like many other fundraisers out there, you pay for your product and receive it 2-5 weeks down the road, and you've forgotten that you even ordered it! Not with MK...Since I have everything on hand. I make up a Drop off and Pick up schedule, once I know when the fundraiser will begin and end. SO FOR EXAMPLE, THIS PAST FUNDRAISER, I would pick up orders in the office on Friday and would deliver all those orders back to the office the following Monday.(and pick up any other orders that were gotten over the weekend...so Friday and Monday were my days to drop off and pick up orders.

Then at the end of the fundraiser, I would write a check to the club for 20%
of all sales, remember to not include the sales tax in that amount!

I hope this helps all of you! Have a Fabulous "FUN"RAISER!!
